WTO Seattle: N30
The Final Edition of ParaScope Dispatch
It's not every day that you get to see a revolution born. ParaScope
Dispatch Four, the final issue of ParaScope's magazine, is a 40-page
special edition featuring street-level coverage of the successful
mass mobilization against the World Trade Organization which took
place in Seattle on November 30, 1999, and the days following. Dispatch
Four weaves together first-hand accounts, photographs, video stills,
poetry and artwork to represent the revolutionary spirit that flooded
downtown Seattle during N30. Also included is a transcript of a talk
by media critic Norman Solomon on the mass media's reaction to the
WTO protests.
Did police use "non-lethal" nerve gas on protesters? Why did the police
and media blame "black-hooded anarchists" while police were tear gassing
and pepper spraying non-violent protesters and shooting them with
rubber bullets? Why hasn't the media reported that the CN tear gas
used by police contains a solvent that is classified as a DNA mutagen,
potentially causing cancer, genetic damage and a range of devastating
health effects?
